Annual WAKE Kayak Symposium

The Annual WAKE Lake Padden Symposium is finally here. This is a special June event on Saturday, June 23rd, is a potluck/paddling seminar. It is free to WAKE members and convenes in the swimming area of Lake Padden. Non-members may join WAKE on the day of the event. The symposium is set up as two two-hour sessions, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Participants may choose from a selection of classes and are asked to remain in the same class for the duration of each session. They must also supply their own equipment and kayaks, ready to paddle at 9 AM. Here’s the general timing:

9:00 AM Symposium begins. Teachers break into groups allowing people to flow into the class they prefer. Instructors describe what they’ll be covering in their respective classes. Students then informally flow into the class they prefer.

11:30 AM Morning session ends.

11:45 to 1 PM Lunch potluck.

1:00 PM, same as morning, participants choose their classes.

3:00 PM classes end. Everyone goes home well exercised and full of new paddling skills.

Primary Instructors include:
Dan Moos and Pat Peacock: Rescue and Safety
Sharon Lindsay: ACA Quickstart course, Intro to Kayaking
Chris Mitchell: Forward Stroke (AM) and Advanced Strokes (PM)
David Harris: Bracing and Edging

Support instructors include Gene Davis, Reg Lake, Dave Peebles, and other advanced kayakers. Larger classes may be divided into smaller groups with these support instructors as necessary.
